What I believe is that there should be provision of rain check for cricket too. Now days there is DLF cricket tournament is going on in Kuala Lumpur. West Indies lost the first match but some how won the second one. And that ’some how’ is Duckworth-Lewis method.
People says cricket is game of uncertainty that is until last ball or over is remaining we can’t say anything who will win. There are lots of matches in the past to prove this statement. If this is true then why there is Duckworth-Lewis method to decide a game like this.
If we see the last two matches played then again it proves the worth less method of Duckworth-Lewis. In second match India set the target of 310 runs for West Indies to win the match. In reply West Indies lost 2 wickets and made 141 runs in 20 overs when match get stopped because of rain. At the end, Duckworth-Lewis method re-calculated the target and result, West Indies will required 112 runs in 20 overs (for the loss of two wickets); and that score they crossed couple overs back so 29-run victory for the West Indies in second match - courtesy and thanks to the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Now lets go back to first match that was played just 2 days ago between West Indies and Australia. In this match West Indies had 270 runs target and in reply once they were at 176 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 25 overs. That means in the next 25 overs they need to have only 94 runs to win with 7 wickets in hand. Isn’t it the same situation as it was today but unfortunately or fortunately there was no rain and result West Indies was all out in 34.3 overs and they just managed 201 runs? Definitely there was possibility to repeat same thing against India too. I don’t know if cricket is game of uncertainty because of rain or any other reason but definitely yes it’s game of uncertainty because of Duckworth-Lewis method.

1Agree with your point…this is no method of deciding the winner when Cricket is a game of uncertainities….each ball matters….
But I hate Cricket esp the Indian cricket team…1 major reason being that this game is given soooo much more preferance/coverage over all other games…n hate all these cricketers for promoting non-sense stuff like energy drinks, bikes, gels….eeksss & then they like appearing in movies too…

2DL method is a crap. Dunno why it still exists. Still remember the 1992 WC semifinal b/w S.A. and eng. when all of a sudden, S.A. were given a target of 22 runs of 1 delivery. Pity.
