Feb. 3 is a BIG day for sports fan here in USA, because it’s super duper final of football between Newyork Giants and New England’s Patriots. Super bowl XLII will be played at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (XLII stands for 42). This is the day when second most food is consumed in united states, this is the day when advertisers usually release their new ads because in one shot it reaches out to million of people. And this is also the reason why feminist are saying they will be in high alert.

Kim Gandy, head of the National Organization for Women (NOW), said in a statement, “Almost as many women as men watch the Super Bowl and millions of girls and boys are glued to the screen as well, That’s why our feminist ad-watchers will be paying close attention to the commercials and ranking them based on their portrayal of women and other groups who often see themselves stereotyped, ridiculed or just plain missing in high-profile ads”.

This super bowl will be played between Eli Mannings and Tom Brady, Last year Eli’s brother Payton Manning was in the center of super bowl and his team won the match. So if Giants win then it would be second championship for manning family otherwise it would be Patriot who will make the history by winning 19 straight games and definetly New England will play to secure their fourth championship in the last seven years. They lost the last year’s super bowl.

New England is the highest scoring team in NFL history and quarterback Brady’s 50 touchdown passes also is a record. But the Giants (13-6) and their up and down quarterback Eli Manning have played in the postseason like a team determined to prove it belongs among the NFL’s elite.

I am not football fan but watching super bowl since last couple of years. For me it doesn’t matter who wins but definetly this is going to be a great super bowl.

It’s amazing how people gets idea to use technology for different purpose which is meant for something else. Have you ever thought that one day the same bluetooth technology will help someone to walk again.

Till now I only saw people having this on their ear and communicating with friends and family as a handless device. But now bluetooth is getting use to comunicating between legs.

On Oct 15, 2006, Marine Lance Cpl. Joshua Bleill lost both of his legs above the knees when a bomb exploded under his Humvee. He was patroling at that time in Iraq. He had 32 pins in his hip and a 6-inch screw holding his pelvis together.

But Now, he’s starting to walk again with the help of prosthetic legs outfitted with Bluetooth technology till now which was more commonly associated with hands-free cell phones.

I read this amazing story here in CNN.

[On this Saturday 28th day of July, Uttaranchal Association of North America had just celebrated 10th anniversary of its existence in United States. On this special occasion some renowned personalities of this Himalayan state came to bless us and to share their knowledge and love with US. Here one of our own Mr. Deep Thapliyal, host of cultural programs shares his thoughts on this 9th annual convention of UANA.]

As the dust settles on a day when we got to be up close and personal with the maestros of Uttarakhand, I am humbled as a person and proud of the land I come from. The sheer presence of these amazing dignitaries of our land amongst us was electrifying.

Dr. Pathak with his phenomenal knowledge of our land and his spell binding ability to knit the words together around what seemed like a photo album will leave an everlasting memory in my mind.

Girda, as he is affectionately called, was so easy to relate to as an elder of our community. He has this uncanny ability to say the right thing at the right time in the right way. He left me with this feeling that the time is slipping by and there is this urgency to do it NOW for Uttarakhand. He is a true activist and a poet artist revered amongst Uttarakhandis.

Narendra Singh Negi ji. THE most popular celebrity of our land left me speechless with his amazing voice, artistic flair and deep understanding of the needs of Uttarakhand. This combination of being a celebrity and still being grounded as a social worker and activist was an eye-opener for me.

What struck me the most was the humility of these dignitaries. This humility probably comes from our culture and partly from being amongst the people where there is a need for development/upliftment.

Chandrakala Pandey ji’s Kathak performance provided unending grace to the occasion.

Apart from these guests who came from India we had Dr. Pandey, Dr. Jha, Dr. Prabhu Negi, Dr. Bhakuni, and Dr. Tariyal amongst us.

I am not sure if we will ever be able to put together such a group of people for any gathering. Those who attended this event have enjoyed a once in alife time opportunity.

The delays and technical challenges of the evening that the organizing team had to deal with were all non-factors by the time Girda and Negiji started their jugalbandi. The ever melodious songs ‘Thando Re Thando’ and ‘Dhebra Harch gyani’ rendered by the maestro himself will remain etched my memory for ever.

Kudos to the team from UANA who made this unique interaction with the maestros possible. I will certainly hope that there will be another occasion like this.
