Let’s start this topic with types of search, there are basically two types of search engines on the internet - searchable subject index e.g. yahoo and full-text search engines e.g. google. Searchable subject type’s engine searches the titles and descriptions of sites and does not search individual pages. While full-text search engines does use computerized spiders to index pages, these pages can be searched by title or content and that’s why gives narrower results.

Whenever we search more than one keyword at a time, a search engine has a default method and that is boolean AND. That mean use both words for search, to search for individual words it’s better to us OR e.g. Control OR Panel. You can also combine these two types to gether, for example: India (cricket OR soccer) means India Cricket OR India Soccer. If you want to exclude something from the search then use the minus sign “-” e.g. Cricket India -”World Cup” (note, there is no space after minus) so this will give all the result where search finds cricket and India and exclude those pages with “World Cup”. Only one hiccup is if anyone has dash “-” then it does not exclude those, Try it here.

When you use I’m Feeling Lucky then actually you don’t get all results infact for that you get the page for which google thinks is the most relevant page among all pages.

Some great points (or special syntaxes) when you do google search:

inurl:restricts search to the URLs of web pages, Try This
intitle:restricts search to the titles of web pages, Try This
intext:only search the body text that means ignore URLs, link texts and titles. Try This
inanchor:searches for texts in link anchors, that means descriptive text of a link e.g. in <a href=”http://www.google.com”>my google<a>, my google is link anchor. Try This
link:returns a list of pages linking to the specified URL, Try This

There are some more such syntaxes you can try just keep one thing in mind there should not be any space after colon “:”, those words are - cache, daterange, filetype, related, info, phonebook.
